It has been several years since Audi left 24 hours of Le Mans.

No 24 Hours of Le Mans was held in 2029. The reason is simple: there will be a huge change to the race event which has a history of over 100 years. Circuit de la Sarthe need to be reconstructed. The construction took over a year, thus no race held in 2029.

Hybrid powertrain was obsleted. A new system was introduced. It was called Checkpoint Recharging Racing Regulation, or C3R.

A totally different world was opened up to the constructors. It was a world full of uncertainties, and, full of opportunities for Audi to fight back and stand on the top of the podium again.

Guys in Ingolstadt started a top secret program to build a new car for the new race.

This is Project Gaian.

The Revolution of Racing

C3R = Check Point Recharging Racing Regulation.

On Circuit de la Sarthe, there are 12 checkpoints. Drivers can choose to hit the checkpoints or ignore it.

The battery of racing cars are strictly limited. If the driver miss too many checkpoints, the result will be retirement.

The checkpoints are usually set off the lane. Charging the battery will loose the optimal lane. That means the race will be very dramatic.

Under the tarmac, the checkpoint is made of superconductive coils. The magnetic field will be picked by another coil on the car to charge the battery. The car get energy from the ground. That’s why it’s called “Project Gaian”.

Quick Swap Cockpit

To swap to another driver, simply change the whole cockpit.
